FUNDRAISING CONCERT FOR UKRAINE

INTERNATIONAL: On Tuesday 29 March, music stars took the stage to perform a televised concert aiming to raise funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee’s humanitarian appeal for Ukraine.

The two-hour concert took place in the British city of Birmingham including chart-toppers like Ed Sheeran and Camila Cabello. The concert also included Snow Patrol, Emeli Sande, Tom Odell, Manic Street Preachers, Anne Marie, Becky Hill, The Kingdom Choir, Gregory Porter, Paloma Faith, and Nile Rodgers & Chic.

Ukrainian singer Jamala, who won the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest, delivered her emotional hit “1944” while holding a Ukrainian flag.

Later a young violinist, Illia Bondarenko, performed an old Ukrainian folk song “Verbovaya Doschechka” in the basement shelter in Kyiv along with 94 violinists from around the world.

Between sets, Camilla Cabello thanked the people for helping raising funds for this important cause.

The organizers said that the concert has raised £12.2 million ($16 million) to help Ukraine.

Russia’s attack on Ukraine which started on 24 February 2022 has killed and injured thousands of people, created nearly four million refugees, and pummeled Russian’s economy.
